Tomorrow is EDIC Part I exam day.
After months of preparation, question banks, guidelines, physiology, pharmacology and countless hours of revision, the most important thing now is to stay calm and make sure you are ready for the practical side of the exam.
Before the Exam
EDIC Part I is an online examination, so make sure your setup is ready well before your scheduled exam time.
Most importantly, make sure you have a stable and reliable internet connection. If possible, avoid relying on an unfamiliar network on the day of the exam.
Prepare a quiet, private room where you will not be disturbed. As part of the online examination and proctoring process, you may be asked to show your surroundings and demonstrate that your examination environment meets the required conditions.
Make sure:
- Your room is quiet and private.
- The door can remain closed during the examination.
- Nobody is likely to enter or interrupt you.
- Your computer and internet connection are working properly.
- You have completed any required system checks beforehand.
- You have the identification and other items required by the official examination instructions.
Follow the official ESICM and examination provider instructions carefully, as these should always take priority over general advice.
During the Exam: Answer Every Question
One of the most important reminders for tomorrow is not to leave questions unanswered.
There is no negative marking for an incorrect answer in EDIC Part I. If you are unsure, eliminate the options you believe are incorrect and make your best choice.
An unanswered question cannot earn you a mark. An educated guess can.
If you are struggling with a question, do not allow it to consume too much of your time. Make your best decision, move on, and return to it later if the examination system and remaining time allow.
Trust Your Preparation
The day before the examination is not the time to try to learn the whole intensive care curriculum again.
Review what you need to review, make sure your examination setup is ready, and get some rest.
During the exam, read each question carefully. Pay attention to exactly what is being asked and avoid changing an answer simply because you start overthinking it.
Most importantly, stay calm if you encounter a difficult series of questions. A few challenging questions do not determine the outcome of the entire examination.
